See Every Second of Your Infrastructure - Without the Complexity or Cost

Netdata collects metrics every second with sub-2-second total latency, providing 10-60× more granular visibility than SixthSense’s 60-second default intervals. This difference is critical - most operational anomalies last 2-10 seconds, which means 60-second monitoring misses 90% of transient issues. A CPU spike lasting 5 seconds appears as a harmless average with minute-based monitoring but is immediately visible with Netdata’s per-second granularity, enabling faster root cause identification and resolution.

Netdata’s distributed edge-native architecture eliminates the infrastructure costs of centralized monitoring. With predictable per-node pricing, Netdata provides 90% cost reduction with no charges for metrics volume, System Logs Monitoring (querying logs in place), users, data retention or containers. Additionally, Netdata’s zero-pipeline System Logs Monitoring eliminates Elasticsearch/Splunk infrastructure costs for logs queried in place (90% reduction), Logs Management stores logs from any source, collected through OpenTelemetry, in the Netdata log store at about 1/4 of raw size, and Netdata’s efficient resource usage (37% less CPU, 88% less RAM, 97% less disk I/O vs. Prometheus at 4.6M metrics/second in Netdata’s benchmark) reduces overall infrastructure expenses.

For distributed tracing on OpenTelemetry, yes. Netdata ingests OpenTelemetry traces over OTLP on the same agent that collects your metrics and logs. Spans are stored and indexed on your own infrastructure, and the Traces tab in Netdata Cloud gives you a duration heatmap, filters by service, span name and duration, a full waterfall for every trace, and every span attribute your instrumentation recorded. Netdata also adds zero-code application insights via process-level monitoring, eBPF instrumentation (on Linux hosts, not in containers), and 800+ integrations for databases, web servers, and caches.

Netdata reduces alert noise through component-level alerts and intelligent configuration. 1,100+ pre-configured alerts with dynamic thresholds automatically attach to newly discovered components, eliminating manual threshold tuning. Additionally, Netdata’s ML-based anomaly detection, a separate always-on signal, watches every metric for unusual behavior - the 18 models achieve 99% false positive reduction in anomaly detection specifically. This combination of accurate component-level alerts plus ML-powered anomaly insights helps teams focus on what matters.

Netdata’s zero-configuration philosophy eliminates setup complexity. One-line installation (wget | sh) auto-discovers 800+ integrations, generates algorithmic dashboards, activates 1,100+ alerts, and starts ML training - all without YAML files, multiple tokens, or network whitelisting. SixthSense users cite ‘complex setup’ as the #2 complaint, requiring PACKAGE_TOKEN authentication, YAML configuration, network whitelisting, td-agent installation for logs, and manual validation. Netdata’s approach: install → dashboard appears → start troubleshooting. No configuration expertise required, no support dependency for basic operations.

Yes - Netdata’s distributed architecture keeps monitoring running offline. Every Netdata Agent operates independently with local metrics dashboards (http://localhost:19999), complete data collection, ML-based anomaly detection, alerting, and storage. Netdata Parents provide optional centralization for multi-node dashboards without requiring internet connectivity. SixthSense offers on-premise deployment (Enterprise tier only), but Netdata’s edge-native design means every deployment keeps all metrics, logs and traces on-premises for data sovereignty, with only metadata traveling to Netdata Cloud for unified dashboards (viewing logs and exploring traces require a Netdata Cloud sign-in).

Netdata’s cost advantage increases at scale due to volume discounts and linear scaling. Netdata’s distributed architecture scales linearly without architectural changes - adding nodes doesn’t affect existing performance or require central infrastructure upgrades. Additionally, Netdata’s resource efficiency (37% less CPU, 88% less RAM, 97% less disk I/O vs. Prometheus at 4.6M metrics/second in Netdata’s benchmark) reduces overall infrastructure costs as you scale. The larger your infrastructure, the more you save with Netdata.

Absolutely - this is our recommended approach. Install Netdata alongside SixthSense (one-line installation, non-disruptive) and run side-by-side for 30 days. Compare which tool catches transient issues first and which provides better cost/performance. Netdata won’t interfere with your existing setup - it operates independently with local data collection and storage. After 30 days, you decide based on data, not vendor promises. Many customers discover Netdata catches infrastructure issues SixthSense misses entirely due to per-second granularity.

Netdata covers logs at two levels: System Logs Monitoring eliminates the entire log pipeline for OS logs by querying native systemd-journal files (Linux), Windows Event Log and macOS unified logs in place, and Logs Management collects, stores and indexes logs from any other source through the OpenTelemetry Collector into the Netdata log store. This zero-pipeline architecture delivers 90% cost reduction vs. Elasticsearch/Splunk, log queries that fully evaluate the first 500,000 entries of a query, then sample up to 1M, and instant correlation with metrics from the same source. SixthSense requires installing td-agent (52.2M memory, 56.868s CPU), configuring PACKAGE_TOKEN, setting up log collection pipelines, and maintaining centralized log storage. Netdata: systemd-journal already exists on every Linux system - we query it directly with full-text search, field filtering, and histogram visualization. No pipeline to manage, no infrastructure to maintain, and System Logs Monitoring (querying logs in place) is not billed.

SixthSense also sells data observability (schema monitoring, data lineage, data quality scoring) and API security (application-layer vulnerability scanning and threat detection), products that sit outside infrastructure monitoring. For infrastructure, logs and distributed tracing, Netdata delivers per-second visibility, OpenTelemetry traces with query-time RED analysis, 90% cost savings and zero configuration - replacing expensive infrastructure modules while providing superior real-time visibility.

Netdata’s open-source foundation (80,000+ GitHub stars, 1.5M daily downloads) provides transparency, community support, and zero vendor lock-in. The agent is GPLv3+ licensed with full source code available - you can audit, modify, and deploy without restrictions. SixthSense is proprietary with no public repositories, no community forums, and no API for custom integrations (verified limitation). Netdata’s REST API v3 with OpenAPI schema enables custom integrations, automations, and workflows impossible with SixthSense. Additionally, Netdata exports to all major TSDBs (Prometheus, InfluxDB, Graphite, OpenTSDB, TimescaleDB), ensuring you’re never locked into our platform. The open-source model also means faster innovation - our community contributes features, fixes bugs, and validates performance independently (e.g., University of Amsterdam study confirming Netdata as most energy-efficient monitoring solution).

Yes - Netdata excels at Kubernetes monitoring with lower overhead and per-second granularity. Netdata’s agent uses <5% CPU and 150MB RAM (standalone installation, machine learning enabled) vs. SixthSense’s 750m-1 CPU and 500Mi-1Gi memory requirements. Both platforms auto-discover nodes, pods, and services, but Netdata’s per-second visibility catches ephemeral container issues that 60-second monitoring misses entirely. Netdata’s native cgroups monitoring supports all container runtimes (Docker, containerd, Podman, LXC) without configuration. For Kubernetes deployments, Netdata’s Helm chart provides one-command installation with automatic discovery, instant dashboards, and Parents for storing data from short-lived pods. The result: comprehensive Kubernetes monitoring without consuming the resources you’re trying to optimize.

Both platforms support multi-cloud monitoring (Netdata: AWS and Azure through their native monitoring APIs; Agents on any cloud, including GCP and OCI), but Netdata’s distributed architecture provides unique advantages for hybrid environments. Netdata Agents operate independently on each system with local metrics dashboards, offline collection, ML and alerting, and optional streaming to regional Parents - ideal for edge locations, air-gapped facilities, or unreliable connectivity. SixthSense’s SaaS-dependent model requires constant connectivity to the platform. For hybrid infrastructure, Netdata’s edge-native design ensures monitoring continues working during network partitions, with automatic data replication when connectivity restores. Additionally, Netdata’s data sovereignty by design (all metrics, logs and traces stay on-premises) supports compliance requirements, while SixthSense requires Enterprise tier for on-premise deployment.

Netdata provides comprehensive migration support: (1) Side-by-side evaluation - install Netdata alongside SixthSense (one-line install, non-disruptive) and compare for 30 days; (2) Phased migration - deploy Netdata Parents for centralization, install Agents on subset of infrastructure, validate functionality, expand to full infrastructure, then decommission SixthSense; (3) Documentation and community support - comprehensive guides at learn.netdata.cloud, active Discord community, and 80,000+ GitHub community members; (4) Professional services - architecture design, deployment assistance, and training programs available. The migration typically takes 2-4 weeks for 500-node deployments, with zero downtime because Netdata runs alongside existing monitoring during evaluation. Most customers report immediate value from Netdata’s per-second visibility catching issues their previous tool missed entirely.
